Ballarat Council has begun cleaning and preparing the Civic Hall foyer before welcoming the community in to plan the future of the building and surrounding site.

CEO Anthony Schinck was onsite to check on progress ahead of the first community event planned for late October.

“We’re looking forward to inviting all residents to once again make use of this community asset. This time to design its future,” said Anthony Schinck.

“This is the first step in bringing life back to the Civic Hall site, right here in the heart of our city.”

“Soon everyone will be able to come into the space and begin imagining its future, together.”

“For now, if you want to be the first to know the latest news, get event invitations and start the process, you can sign up at www.civichallsite.org

Kicking off with an open community event in late October, Ballarat Council has committed to a process of participatory design where residents will come together to plan the site’s future.

“Ballarat is leading the way with this exciting community building project. This isn’t just the same old community consultation, this is putting our trust in people.

We know we will get the best outcomes with the community in control and we’re developing trust and connections, not just a space.”

In what is likely a first of its kind in Ballarat and across the country, Ballarat residents will be supported in developing plans for the whole Civic Hall site, including the hall itself.

To get started, residents can sign up at www.civichallsite.org
